Welcome to the Monday edition of the Pick Six newsletter! If I learned one thing over the weekend, it's that we might need a new name for the sport of football because we can't keep calling it football after what happened on Sunday. There's only one position on the field that actually uses their feet and they forgot how to use them in Week 5: Kickers combined to mi s 12 field goals AND 12 extra points, which was tied for the most mi sed extra points ever during a single week in the Super Bowl era.For the sport's new name, I propose "Quall." It stands for "Quarterback Ball," because that's basically what the NFL has turned into. If you need me, I will be trademarking "Quall" so that I can make millions when the NFL decides to change its name to the NQL.Anyway, we'll be talking about the mi sed kicks plus plenty more in today's newsletter, so let's get to the rundown. As always, here's your weekly reminder to tell all your friends to sign up for the Pick Six newsletter. To get your friends to sign up, all you have to do iswith them. 1. Today's show: Week 5 winners and losers, plus full recapIt's Monday, which can only mean one thing: I stayed up until 3 a.m. last night recording a podcast with Will Brinson and Ryan Wilson that touched on everything you need to know about Week 5, and let me just say, it's probably for the best that you listen. We covered all 14 games from Sunday, although I think the Sunday night game technically counted as a Monday game since it ended on Monday morning due to a weather delay that lasted more than an hour. One thing we do every week is hand out our weekly winners and losers from Sunday's action. For our winners this week, we all went with quarterbacks, which either makes us lazy or brilliant.Ryan WilsonWinner: and the .Herbert was Wilson's preseason pick to win NFL MVP, so Wilson spent half the podcast bragging about how smart he is after watching Herbert throw for 398 yards and four touchdowns in the Chargers' 47-42 win over the . It's not just Herbert though, the entire team looks awesome and the Chargers certainly feel like one of the top-three teams in the AFC. Loser: Urban Meyer and the . It's not often that your head coach is a distraction, but that's exactly what's happening in Jacksonville. In their first game since Meyer's off-the-field gaffe, the Jaguars played like they were distracted in a 37-19 lo s to Tenne see. The Jags have now lost 20 straight games, which is the second-longest losing streak in NFL history. Will BrinsonWinner Baker Mayfield Jersey : .Brady has been in the NFL for so long that it feels like he's accomplished everything there is to accomplish, but as it turns out, he actually did something on Sunday that he had never done before. The QB threw for 411 yards and five touchdowns, marking the first time that he's thrown for five or more touchdowns in a game where he also threw for 400 or more yards. Eating a quinoa-only diet for the past 21 years has clearly been paying off for Brady.Loser: coach Joe Judge.Judge isn't even halfway through his second season on the job and he already looks like he's in over his head. To make things worse, he's now going to have to deal with a slew of injuries after , and were all forced to leave the game on Sunday.John BreechWinner: .America got treated to the full Jameis Winston experience on Sunday. After turning the ball over twice in the first quarter, Winston rebounded with a monstrous game that included a 72-yard TD pa s and a 49-yard Hail Mary just before halftime. In the before times, if Winston turned the ball over twice, his team would lose by 30 points, but Sean Payton has him playing at such a high level that he doesn't think twice when he makes a mistake. Winston's QB rating for season is 108.1, which is basically tied with Tom Brady (108.5), which clearly confirms that Winston is the next Brady.Loser: Kickers. On a historically bad day, kickers around the league combined to mi s 24 kicks (12 extra points and 12 field goals). The 12 mi sed extra points tied the record for most mi sed PATs in a single week in the Super Bowl era. The ' win over the had the most mi sed kicks with the two teams combining for six mi ses (five field goals, one extra point). Not only did we list our winners and losers, but we also recapped every game from Sunday. To listen to today's episode -- and to subscribe to the best daily NFL podcast out there --. Week 5 grades: get an 'A+' for upset win over Every week I team up with six of my colleagues here at CBSSports.com to hand out grades, and this week, the Bills got an A+ for going into Arrowhead and destroying the Chiefs. Here's a look at the grades from two notable games that were played Sunday:Bills 38-20 over Chiefs ()Chiefs takeaway:This might have been the worst game of ' career. The Chiefs quarterback turned the ball over three times, including a pick-six, and because of his struggles, the Chiefs just seemed out of sync all night. Not only did the Chiefs lose, but to add Austin Seibert Jersey insult to injury, they also had multiple players get banged up including (knee), (knee), (stinger) and (fractured hand).Grade: DBills takeaway:If your quarterback outplays Patrick Mahomes, that usually means you're going to beat Kansas City and outplayed the Chiefs star on Sunday night. Allen totaled 374 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Of that total, 315 yards and three touchdowns came through the air. The Bills also got some surprising help from , who finished with 117 yards and a TD. Buffalo's defense also came up big, forcing four turnovers, including a pick-six by that basically iced the game in the third quarter. The Bills are starting to look like the best team in the AFC.Grade: A+ 27-20 over ()Jets takeaway:Apparently, the Jets' defense didn't make it through customs, because it definitely didn't show up for the first half in this London game. For that matter, neither did the offense. The Jets were buried in a 20-3 hole at halftime and that mostly had to do with the fact that the Falcons were able to pile up more than 250 total yards through the game's first two quarters. Atlanta's almost had as many yards (76) at halftime as the entire Jets offense (80). The Jets did mount a spirited comeback in the second half, but it was too little, too late.Grade:C-Falcons takeaway:Falcons rookie decided to hold his NFL coming-out party in London. With the Falcons mi sing their top two receivers, the first-year tight end had a career day with nine catches for 119 yards and a TD. His day was po sible because was on fire, throwing for 342 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, the Falcons took advantage of an inept Jets offense, allowing just 230 yards, which was the fewest yards the team has allowed in a regular-season game since 2014. Grade:B+As for the other 24 grades we . 3. Quarterbacks get banged up in Week 5It's been awhile since we've had to do a roundup of quarterback injuries, but we need one today and that's because multiple quarterbacks got banged up over the weekend. Here's a look at who went down and what they're dealing with: taken to hospital following lo s to Packers. The Bengals quarterback suffered a throat contusion at some point on Sunday and it was serious enough that he had to be taken to the hospital after the game. Burrow took a huge hit in this game while scrambling, but that's not when the injury happened. According , Burrow was poked in the throat at some other point in the game. Burrow has said that he feels fine and he was able to finish Sunday's game, so I'd say that bodes well for his chances of playing this week against the .Daniel Jones carted off the field in lo s to . The Giants quarterback had to be carted off the field after suffering a concu sion on a vicious hit at the goal line. Jones will have to make it through concu sion protocol before he'll be eligible to play this week, so there's no guarantee he'll be on the field against the in Week 6. Tom Brady Cleveland Browns Jersey dealing with thumb injury. The QB with his thumb taped up. Brady admitted that he injured his thumb during the game, although the injury probably isn't that serious, because if it was going to keep him out, he probably wouldn't have showed up to his pre s conference and talked about it. eyeing Week 10 return. After Wilson underwent surgery on his finger, the initial belief was that the quarterback would be out for six to eight weeks, but apparently, he's working with a different timeline. According , Wilson is hoping to mi s just four weeks. Under that timeline, Wilson would mi s games against the (Week 6), the (Week 7) and the Jaguars (Week 8) before returning to practice in Week 9. The good news for Wilson is that the have a bye that week, so Wilson wouldn't have to be back on the field until Seattle's Week 10 showdown with the Packers, which means the middle finger on his throwing hand will have had more than five weeks to fully heal before he would have to play. 4. Five crazy facts from Week 5Every Sunday night, I get an email from our research department here at CBS Sports, and every Sunday, that email always includes some amazingly wild facts about the games that were just played. With that in mind, here are five crazy facts about Week 5:Browns make history, but not the good kind of history. The Browns became the first team in NFL history to lose a game where they scored 40 or more points and had zero turnovers. Going into Week 5, NFL teams had been 401-0 in those situations in the Super Bowl era.Jaguars lose their 20th straight game. The Jaguars became just the second team in NFL history to lose at least 20 straight games. The only longer streak came 45 years ago when the Buccaneers lost 26 straight during a streak that spanned 1976 and 1977. The Jaguars could tie that record in Week 11 against the Falcons. Bad luck Lions. The Lions became the first team in NFL history to lose multiple games in the same season on a field goal of 50 or more yards as time expired. Two weeks after losing to the on a 66-yard field goal, the Lions lost to the on a 54-yard kick on Sunday. To put this in perspective: The Lions have two of these lo ses through five weeks. Before this year, no team had ever had two in an ENTIRE season.Chargers explode in fourth quarter. For as long as I can remember, the Chargers were usually a team that melted down in the fourth quarter, but not anymore. The Chargers scored 26 points in the fourth quarter against the Browns, which is the most points they've scored in the game's final quarter since 1991. off to best start in 47 years. The Cardinals are 5-0, which is something that almost never happens. The Cards' hot start marks the first time since 1974 that the team has started a season at least 5-0. Of course, this year's team probably doesn't want to emulate that 1974 team. That season ended with the Cards going 5-4 down the stretch to finish 10-4. That team also lost its opening playoff game.If the Cardinals want to improve to 6-0, they're going to have to fly acro s the country and beat the Browns this week. 5. Monday preview: Prepping you for at RavensAfter a wild Week 5 that saw both the Browns and Bengals lose, the Ravens could take over sole po se sion of first place with a win. However, the Colts could also use a win and that's because if they lose, they'll be two full games behind the in the AFC South race. My good buddy Jared Dubin wrote our deep-dive preview for this game here at CBSSports.com, and here's how he sees the game playing out:Why the Colts can win:With two of their top offensive linemen out, Damarious Randall Jersey it's going to be imperative for the Colts to get their rushing attack going early. If gets hot, not only will that take some pre sure off of , but it will also keep and the Ravens offense off the field. If the Colts are going to win, they're likely going to need a monstrous game from Taylor. Why the Ravens can win:If Lamar Jackson has proven one thing this year, it's that he can absolutely throw the ball when the Ravens need him to, which is a good thing, because the Ravens are probably going to need him to throw the ball in this game. The Colts have struggled to stop the pa s and if Jackson can take advantage of that, the Ravens will likely win by double digits. You .Dubin's pick:Ravens 27-13 over Colts. My pick:Ravens 31-23 over Colts. If you're thinking about betting on the game, Tyler Sullivan put together a full gambling preview.ONE PROP TYLER LIKES: Lamar Jackson OVER 228.5 pa sing yards (-115):ONE PROP I LIKE: Carson Wentz OVER 1.5 pa sing touchdowns (+150):I'm not a huge fan of taking a Wentz prop here, but this prop offers a ton of value (To put the +150 in perspective, Lamar Jackson is at -105 for the same prop). Not only has Wentz thrown multiple touchdown pa ses in two of Indy's four games, but he'll be going up against a Ravens defense that has surrendered six TD pa ses on the season, which is tied for the fifth-most in the NFL.Long shot prop I'm thinking about betting:First points of the game come on a Ravens field goal (+325). The Colts defense is good enough that I think they'll be able to slow down Baltimore in the red zone and as we all know, the Ravens have Justin Tucker, so they won't shy away from attempting a field goal. You . 6. Rapid-fire roundupIt was a busy weekend in the NFL and since it's nearly impo sible to keep track of everything that happened, I went ahead and put together a roundup for you. Jon Gruden email controversy continues.CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora is now being investigated by the NFL for his email that used racist language to describe NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith. In a separate email, Gruden Roger Goodell.DeMaurice Smith to keep his job.On the same day Gruden's emails leaked, Smith's future was also up in the air. He needed 22 of 32 player representative votes to keep his job as NFLPA director and , which means he'll be sticking around until at least 2023. NFL to Germany is almost a done deal. The NFL will almost certainly be holding a game in Germany in 2022. The only thing the league has to figure out is where to put the game. The three (Oct. 12). could Olivier Vernon Jersey be out for the season. The Steelers receiver injured his shoulder on Sunday and it was bad enough that he'll almost be certainly headed to injured reserve, . Once on IR, a player can return after mi sing three games, but the Steelers are "fearful" that JuJu .Giants injuries piling up. Besides losing Daniel Jones to injury, the Giants also lost Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay. According , Barkley is week-to-week with a low-ankle sprain while the severity of Golladay's (knee) won't be known until today. The new NFL season is here! Win or lose, you can shop jerseys, shirts, hats, and much more to support your favorite team. .
The found a playmaker at wide receiver in the second round of the 2022 in Georgia's . In his first Bobby Massie Jersey NFL season, Pickens caught 52 of 84 targets for 801 yards and four touchdowns. He ranked fourth among rookie wideouts in both catches and receiving yards.Pickens' profe sional career got off to a solid start, but the Steelers failed to make the postseason and Pickens wasn't named to the Pro Bowl. These are two things he wants to change in 2023."Year two goals Cordarrelle Patterson Jersey are Pro Bowl, and I feel like last year I feel like I got snubbed, because there wasn't a lot of guys in there at the Pro Bowl that excited me," Pickens said, . "Then, I want to go to the . The two bowls. A lot of RAC, run after catch. Two bowls for sure." PIT WR #14 TAR84REC52REC YDs801REC TD4FL0 Pickens saying that there weren't many players who "excited" him at the Pro Bowl last year is pretty interesting -- especially when you consider the list of wideouts that were selected over Pickens from the AFC: , , and . Even Offensive Rookie Kyle Long Jersey of the Year didn't get an invite after catching 83 pa ses for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns. If you haven't been able to tell, Pickens is a competitor, but that's a quality which will allow him to be special. In the Week 13 matchup against the , Pickens was seen This wasn't something that bothered head coach Mike Tomlin, who told reporters afterwards he wants those types of players compared to the ones you have to motivate."I'd rather say 'Whoa' than 'Sic 'em,'" Tomlin said, via. "I want a Devin Hester Jersey guy that wants to be a significant part of what it is that we do. Now, the appropriate and profe sional and mature way to expre s that, we're growing and Pat O'Donnell Jersey working on, and we will continue to. But that spirit, that competitive spirit, the guy that wants the ball. I want that guy." Pickens and his second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett could be two players who are set up for . Earning a Pro Bowl bid in the loaded AFC is quite the challenge, though.
The are favorites. Again. The last few years the team is always a top pick to win it all, but they have yet to make a championship game in the Era.How long before their chance at hoisting a Lombardi Trophy closes? It's a question many are asking, but one Allen does not want to discu s.When asked about critics suggesting the Bills' Super Bowl window is closing, Allen dismi sed any comments saying he doesn't pay attention to outside opinions. He also gave credit to his team Yasmany Tomas Jersey and the organization as a whole."One thing I do know is it's hard to win in this league, it's hard to win consistently in this league," Allen told. "But the type of men that we have in this facility, in this locker room, it's a special group. So I don't really hear all that outside noise. I know the type of guys that we have, the energy and the juice that we can A. J. Pollock Jersey bring and how special this team can be." The 27-year-old is focused on taking it one game at a time and knows just because they looked good last season, doesn't mean they will this season."It takes every single Sunday, Monday, Thursday," Allen said. "It takes every game day of going out there and putting your best foot forward, taking it one game at a time. Nothing we did last year carries over to this year. You play the games for a reason. Any given Sunday, any team can win, but Jorge De La Rosa Jersey we're just looking to put our best foot forward one game at a time." BUF QB #17 CMP%63.3YDs4283TD35INT14YD/Att7.55 The AFC certainly didn't get easier this offseason, with quarterback joining the . Add on the , the defending champion along with lots of other legit contenders and the road to win it all is rather difficult. The Bills know this Jeff Mathis Jersey all too well, because even with previous teams fully capable of being crowned champs, they have yet to get there.Last season, the Bills lost to the Bengals in the Divisional Round, and their 2021 season ended with a lo s to the Chiefs, also in the Divisional Round. In 2020, the Chiefs knocked them out in the AFC Championship, and it was the who shocked most everyone by defeating the Bills in the 2019 wild-card round.Allen joined the Bills in 2018 when they drafted him No. 7 overall and since then he has continued to prove that he is one of the best in the league. The two-time Pro Bowler has 1,604 completions for 18 Robbie Ray Jersey ,397 pa sing yards and 138 touchdowns. The Bills begin their season on "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 11 against the Jets.
Week 13 of the NFL season is here and we have one of the best slates of the season on Ben Smith Jersey tap, including the hosting the Commanders, Teemu Selanne Jersey the Jets traveling to Minnesota to take on the Vikings, the Eagles hosting the Titans and a rematch of last year's AFC title game between the Chiefs and Bengals.Injuries will Rob Ramage Jersey continue to be one of the main storylines of the week, as we get updates on which players will not be playing on Sunday. Arsenal are considering whether to accept Barcelonas 30 million bid for Emmanuel Adebayor.Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be disappointed to lose Adebayor, Jose Ramirez Jersey who scored 30 goals in all competitions last season Chipper Jones Jersey . Arsenal may lose one of their best strikers but they will gain 25 million after buying Kurt Suzuki Jersey Adebayor for 4.2 million 18 months ago.As reported earlier in the week Adebayor isnt happy with his 35,000 a week salary at Arsenal and has been seeking a more lucrative contract. Arsenal were looking to improve his contract before Adebyor started Tyler Flowers Jersey talking to the media but this now looks unlikely.Arsenal are said to be lining up Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz as a po Julio Teheran Jersey sible replacement should Adebayor leave.
Real Madrid have, at last Robinson Chirinos Jersey , lost hope of signing Man Utd world-cla s player Cristiano Ronaldo in the near future. This news has come out after further reports linking the Man Utd start with a near-100-million transfer to the Spanish titans. However, their President Ramon Calderon has stated:For right now Tyler Clippard Jersey , Cristiano Ronaldo, yes, is an utopia signing. Jose Altuve Jersey These type of players will only come to Madrid if they want to come to Madrid. We cannot buy a player with force. If the player says that hell leave, then yes we can negotiate Andy Pettitte Jersey .It is extremely unlikely that Ferguson will be ready to sell his prized young player in the coming seasons. Ronaldo has become an idol at Manchester and contrary to reports, Jeff Bagwell Jersey it seems that he is loving life in Manchester. Would the player be scoring 40+ goals if he had not adapted to life in Manchester?
The 2022 NFL trade deadline buzzer has sounded, and there were several deals made leading up to Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET cutoff. The Buffalo Bills even beat the clock, acquiring running back Nyheim Hines from the Indianapolis Colts with three minutes to spare before the deadline. With lots of parity acro s the league, a number of teams dipped their toes into the trade waters. Here, we're grading each of the Houston Astros Jersey notable moves to fall before Tuesday's trade deadline:Dolphins get: EDGE Bradley Chubb, 2025 fifth-round pick get: RB , 2023 first-round pick, 2024 fourth-round pickFrom Denver's perspective, the trade of Chubb is a curious move. The season has not gone as expected with new quarterback but initiating a rebuild while carrying such a steep contract is counter-intuitive. The Broncos need all the help they can get and Chubb plays a premier position. Plus, San Francisco is likely to make the playoffs so the first-round pick they received from the Dolphins in return will almost certainly be in the 20s or worse. With that being said, Denver may have some insight into the 26-year-old not being worth what it would have had to pay on a new contract. Miami for the right to pay the young edge rusher. The move is a commitment to the path on which the Dolphins are headed, which is respectable. Chubb has recorded 26 sacks in 49 games, which is another way of saying he has mi sed 24 games since being taken No. 5 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.Dolphins grade: BBroncos grade: BCommanders get: Conditional sixth-round pick in 2025Steelers get: CB William Jackson, conditional seventh-round pick in 2025Washington deserves some credit for getting something for a player everyone knew was no longer in their long-term plans. That being said, it's hard to give them too much credit given that they didn't receive much for a cornerback who should have had decent value on the open market. It's surprising that a contending team -- the Cincinnati Bengals come to mind following Chidobe Awuzie's serious injury sustained on Monday night -- didn't making a compelling offer for Jackson. Pittsburgh liked Jackson and was primed to select him with the 25th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. But the Bengals jumped in and grabbed Jackson with the 24th pick, leaving the Steelers to select fellow cornerback Artie Burns. Six years later, the Steelers finally have Jackson on their roster after pulling off Tuesday's trade. The acquisition of Jackson is timely given that Pittsburgh's secondary allowed three touchdowns to A.J. Brown during Sunday's blowout lo s in Philadelphia. Jackson alone won't mask all of Craig Biggio Jersey the Steelers' secondary i sues, but it's a good start. He's a veteran player who could mimic the succe s Joe Haden recently had after joining the Steelers during the back half of his career.Steelers grade: BCommanders grade: CJaguars get:WR Calvin RidleyFalcons get: Conditional pick ranging from second-rounder to sixth-rounder Ridley caught his last pa s for the Falcons on Oct. 24, 2021. We would venture to gue s that he probably wanted a new start somewhere else. Atlanta already started to build a new wide receiving corps with, and, and hey, the Falcons are currently sitting atop the NFC South at 4-4!We like how many conditions there are on this deal. Best-case scenario, the Falcons will receive a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick. Worst-case scenario, Atlanta gets a sixth-round pick, and Ridley doesn't even make the Jaguars roster in 2024. You could argue that's decent value for a player who hasn't played for your team in over a year.Ridley will be 28 when he puts on a Jags helmet for the first time. When you look at the stats from his first four seasons, Ridley looks like a legitimate No. 1. He was sixth in receiving yards in 2020, which ranked higher than big names like,,and. You have to imagine Ridley will be rejuvenated with this change of scenery, but at the same time, it's fair to wonder if this addition is a sure thing. Jaguars grade: B+Falcons grade: CBears get: WR Chase Claypool get: 2023 second-round pickChicago has finally given another , which isn't nothing. Claypool has shown in spurts that he can be a physical freak, and opposite , he should aid the Bears' pa sing attack both now and through 2023. The question is, how can he elevate it after an uneven, occasionally undisciplined run in Pittsburgh? The Steelers get the benefit of the doubt here because of how seamle sly they Jeff Bagwell Jersey draft, develop and replace pa s catchers; they're basically getting back what they paid to select Claypool three years later, with waiting to emerge as a feistier starter anyway.Bears grade: C+Steelers grade: B+Vikings get: TE T.J. Hockenson, 2023 fourth-round pick, 2024 conditional fourth-round pick get: 2023 second-round pick, 2024 third-round pickWith Jr. banged up, Minnesota needed some help at tight end. Instead, they got a . Hockenson has battled his own injuries, but when healthy, he's easily a top-10 pa s catcher at his position, rounding out an already-impre sive Vikings group that includes , and . All the Vikings are surrendering, to secure Hockenson through at least 2023 on a reasonable deal, is e sentially the equivalent of a second-rounder. Detroit has reason to sell, to be sure, but why did their trade chip have to be one of their few proven building blocks, who will now play them twice a year and be difficult to replace even with the improved draft capital? Vikings grade: ALions grade: D+Bills get: RB Nyheim HinesColts get: RB Zack Mo s, 2023 conditional sixth-round pickBuffalo got its coveted versatile running back before the deadline, while parting ways with Mo s, a third-year player whose role had diminished this season. Without giving up much, the Bills picked up a 25-year-old running back who has caught 300 pa ses since coming into the NFL in 2018. Hines' skill set should complement Devin Singletary while giving Josh Allen another option in the pa sing game. In return, the Colts received a draft pick and a running back who averaged a career-high 5.4 yards per carry for the Bills this season.Bills grade: B+Colts grade: BRavens get:LB Roquan Smith get: 2023 second-round pick, 2023 fifth-round pick, LB The Ravens are certainly on an improving defense. Smith leads the NFL with 83 tackles and brings tenacious energy. Whether the Ravens can sign him to a reasonable long-term deal, at a position that doesn't always age well, will go a long way in justifying this gamble, but Baltimore could still recoup a compensatory pick if he leaves after the season. As for the Bears, getting two picks for an impending free agent is solid. After also dealing , they now have a first, two seconds, a third, two fourths, two fifths, and a seventh in the 2023 draft. The rebuild is on.Ravens grade: B-Bears grade: B+Chiefs get: WR Kadarius Toney get: 2023 third-round pick, 2023 sixth-round pickIf anyone can squeeze the untapped juice out of a once-hyped Swi s Army Knife, it's Andy Reid and , right? If another team for a fragile freestyler who's mi sed 10 games in one and a half seasons, we might scratch our heads. And Toney's inability to stay healthy and/or engaged up to this point is a real concern. But the Chiefs are built to make use of his multipurpose shiftine s, permitting him to serve as a No. 3-type standout as opposed to the No. 1 New York Anthony Gose Jersey desperately needed him to be. The Giants get credit for admitting their mistake, but K.C., in basically surrendering just an exce s pick (the third-rounder is a compensatory bonus), has the supporting cast to end up with the greater value. Chiefs grade: BGiants grade: C+Eagles get: DE Robert QuinnBears get: 2023 fourth-round pickSquarely in the hunt for a title thanks to their 6-0 start, the Eagles already had lots of big names on their defense, but Quinn to plug into the rotation. The former Pro Bowler struggled to replicate his 2021 dominance early this year, but he's got over a decade of experience as a steady edge presence, and should slot in immediately opposite behind first-teamers and star newcomer . A fourth for a pricey 32-year-old isn't cheap, but the Bears are reportedly eating most of Quinn's salary, and he's easily expendable after the year. Call it a win-win for both sides, with Philly hoping to bolster its front down the stretch a la 2017.Eagles grade: B+Bears grade: B49ers get: RB Christian McCaffrey get: 2023 second-round pick, 2023 third-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick, 2024 fifth-round pickKyle Shanahan has generally schemed up a dominant ground game regardle s of who's in the backfield, so the , who's also owed $36 million from 2023-2025, is quite costly. As an immediate addition, of course, he gives an , ensuring San Francisco should be a contender out of the NFC West. But on the whole, it's hard not to crown Carolina the winner: special as McCaffrey may have been to their offense and fan base, he's got an extensive injury history at a position that's more replaceable than ever, and his return haul should help the Panthers in their next pursuit of a franchise quarterback. 49ers grade: B-Panthers grade: AJets get: RB James Robinson get: 2023 conditional sixth-round pickNew York to replace , whose explosive rookie season ended prematurely due to injury, and paid a minimal price to do so. What Robinson lacks in sheer explosivene s, he makes up for with toughne s, giving the Jets for their prominent ground game and surprise playoff bid. Jacksonville was bound to lean more on , Robinson's spryer counterpart, so getting as high as a fifth-rounder for a veteran coming off a serious injury is solid value. Still, they Tyler Clippard Jersey could've retained Robinson on a modest restricted free agent deal in 2023 as Etienne insurance.Jets grade: A-Jaguars grade: BCowboys get: DT Johnathan Hankins, 2024 seventh-round pick get: 2023 sixth-round pickDallas' defense has been a terror for most opponents, but the one area of weakne s was run support, which makes Hankins (6-3, 340) an . With eyes on a playoff run, the Cowboys are renting a proven run stuffer who may well end up a full-time starter on their front. He said he will continue to listen to his body and take things "day by day." Barkley said he has not discu sed with the whether or not he would begin the season on the PUP list."The focus is to Brandon Phillips Jersey take it one day at a time," , "and kind of go with the flow, listen to your body, listen to your team, and listen to your trainers. ... The only thing I can do is take it one day at a time and keep that approach."Barkley provided some optimism for Giants fans when asked if he would select himself with the No. 1 overall pick in a fantasy football draft."I was told the best thing to do is to bet on yourself," Barkley said, "so I would say why not." He had just 34 yards on 19 carries last season before suffering his season-ending injury.Barkley's injury contributed to New York's 1-7 start under first year head coach Joe Judge. But for me, it's taking care of today and the couple of weeks leading up to camp, and then when we get into camp, do whatever we can to the best of our capability to prepare for the season and to have the best season that we can po sibly have."
Summers at Villa Park have been tainted by a series of bitter, protracted transfer sagas in recent years. While they should have been bathing in the warm July sun, and counting the daisies in tranquil beer gardens with the rest of the country, most Villa fans were instead chained to their computers and televisions, waiting for the latest scraps of information in the unsavoury transfers of their star players. This year it was the turn of James Milner. Welcomed as a returning hero when he completed his club record 12.5 million transfer Maurice Cheeks Jersey after a previous spell on loan, he revelled in the central role handed to him by ONeill, and was soon receiving a call up to Fabio Capellos squad. With Villas core of British players and Milner playing the finest football of his career, everything pointed towards a long and succe sful relationship between club and player. Sadly, Roberto Mancini had other ideas. After returning from the World Cup, Milner is reported to have met ONeill and revealed his desire to leave, with Manchester City already circling. A 20 million offer soon materialised, but was instantly rejected. If Milner was to leave Villa would need a replacement, and in Stephen Ireland it seemed they had found the ideal candidate.Milner looked set for a distinguished Villa career before making the switch to ManchesterIreland had been turning heads at Eastlands since breaking into the side as a teenager, and was Manchester Citys Player of the Year in 2009 following a scintillating season. Out of favour under Mancini, the consensus amongst Villa fans seemed to be that if Milner was to leave, Ireland should definitely be included in the deal. ONeills sudden departure could have caused the transfer to collapse, but it appeared a new cash Clarence Weatherspoon Jersey -plus-player offer had already been tabled, with the finer details being hammered out in the board rooms. Ireland, though, was clearly not taken with the prospect of a move to the Midlands outfit, telling the Sunday Mirror I have never once said I wanted to leave or kicked up a fu s. The way it stands at the moment I am working my socks off in training and trying to prove to the gaffer that I am good enough to stay.Alarm bells should have been ringing at this stage. Villa were managerle s, and the player the club were trying to acquire, e sentially to replace their own departing star man, was vocalising his desire to stay at Manchester City to anybody who would listen. Neverthele s the transfer was finally completed, reported as being 18 million plus Ireland. The deal was only concluded, however, after City reluctantly agreed to pay Ireland the seven figure loyalty bonus he had been holding out for.So who actually signed Ireland? The official line Ben Simmons Jersey remains that he was a target identified by ONeill, but the fact that the transfer was not completed until after his departure somewhat complicates the i sue. The commonly accepted explanation is that Ireland was a player of such quality that the board simply had to complete the deal, particularly in the face of Milners determination to leave. But this represented a huge gamble. Signing a player for a fee of around 8 million when there is no indication of whether or not the as yet unknown new manager wanted, or even rated, him was a risky move. Any concerns of this nature, though, were simply swept under the carpet.Fast forward three months and Ireland has not made the best of starts at Villa Park. Impre sive against Chelsea in Octobers 0-0 draw, he has since struggled to even get into the side, with Houllier selecting youngsters Bannan, Albrighton, Delfouneso and Clark ahead of Ireland in recent weeks. Houllier has also been critical of Ireland in the pre s, stating that the player has looked lost and needs to work harder. In the last few days speculation has even surfaced that Ireland may leave Villa in January, with Fulham and Liverpool being rumoured as potential suitors in a 10 million transfer. There is no suggestion that Houllier is willing to sell Ireland at this stage, but the midfielder clearly has to improve if he is to be Milners succe sor. On paper Ireland is a perfect fit for Villa. His creativity and surging Philadelphia 76ers Jersey runs from the centre of midfield should be the perfect complement to the dazzling wing play that has been the highlight of an inconsistent start to the season. The decision to move Ashley Young into a central role has limited opportunities for Ireland, and it seems to me that if he is to force his way back into the team it may yet be in a far deeper role than he is accustomed too. Whether or not Ireland will be a succe s in Birmingham could well depend on his ability to adapt to just such a new role. Much was expected of Ireland following his arrival at Villa Park, but he is yet to perform to his bestMilner, on the other hand, has made a solid start to his career at Eastlands, despite being moved back out onto the wing. The problem he could face is whether or not he is a big enough name to hold down a long term place in such a star studded side. Regardle s of how well he performs individually, if City do not break into the top four this season another summer splurge in the transfer market could well see Milner replaced by a more famous name. If this were to happen, Milner would surely have to seek a move away from Manchester in order to preserve his quickly developing international career. The thought that he may one day return to Villa is not entirely inconceivable.Judgement on just how good the deal to sell Milner was for Villa will have to wait until the funds received for his services are invested in new recruits. But if Ireland is to be a succe s at Villa Park he Joel Embiid Jersey has to step out from the shadow of his predece sor and play the kind of football that made him such a hit and Eastlands.
