When it comes to packing for a move, it’s easy
to get overwhelmed out of the gate. In fact, most of us consider moving and get
stressed. However, while the stresses around moving are common, you can remedy
these stresses by being as prepared as you can. Take a few minutes to create a
list of the necessary supplies, of critical rooms to pack, what to pack first
and last, and get started with plenty of time to spare.
There are many supplies necessary to
facilitate packing for a move. To start, every move needs boxes. Use old Amazon
boxes, diaper boxes, boxes from the bulk department stores, or purchase them
from your local moving supply store. Make sure to have a variety of sizes for
various items. Also, gather moving or masking tape, a utility knife and a strong
pair of scissors, permanent markers to label the boxes. Gather bubble wrap,
newspaper, and plastic bags to protect fragile items; you can also use blankets
to wrap fragile items, such as glassware and art. And, if you don’t have a cart
or dolly, plan on borrowing, renting, or purchasing one for your move.
Start with what you don’t need first. If you
have a spare room with items that need to be packed that you don’t use
everyday, start packing that room. Don’t start with your childrens’ clothes,
dishes in the kitchen, or sheets and blankets. You don’t want to accidentally
pack items that you’ll need prior to your move because it will lead to
unpacking, repacking, and a lot more stress than you’ll ever need. And as you
pack, make sure to clean, declutter and donate along the way. Especially the
aforementioned spare room, you may not want to take everything with you to your
new home. Clean as you go.
Make sure you’ve given yourself time to pack -
at least a month. You may not always have a month, or you may have more time.
Regardless of your moving timeline, creating a pre-move checklist and giving yourself plenty
of time to pack without rushing. Your pre-move checklist, to make things
easier, should help you pack from room to room, including the kitchen, outdoor
patio area, garage, bedrooms, and other rooms in your home. Your list could
save you a lot of time and stress.
After you’ve chosen your ideal living space
among the comfy yet luxurious apartments on West Broad Street, start
packing. Whether you have a week or a month, get started on your pre-move
checklist immediately to ensure you pack as efficiently as you can during your
move.
