Director for games Joe Shely explains during a recent roundtable that reimagining sets in a manner that is compatible with Diablo 4 properly wouldn't be likely to be available for launch until next year, though the team is thinking of having them included in its live service Diablo 4 Gold.
"As we've been working on the game, we thought that we could build sets in a novel approach to the ones we've seen in Diablo 3. However, we've needed more time to get them into the game a way that would work seamlessly with the rest of Diablo 4, so you won't see sets at launch into the game." Shely explains. "We believe that sets are interesting, and we'd like to do them right - therefore, we're looking over for our Live service."
"There's a staff legendary in the demo that turns [the spell] fireball into three fireballs," ex-game director Luis Barriga told Polygon(opens in new tab) back in 2019. "The difference might be that, you know an item that's currently available in the live version of Diablo 3 gives you bonuses more in the thousands. I'm thinking we're developing this game now to be a bit more constrained to avoid getting us into that super expanding Power Curve."
If you're not familiar with the term "set," Set Items are typically strong pieces of equipment that can provide the most power when fully together. They're "set" since they're always offering the same bonus features, and as such they're part of sets. They first came into play with Diablo 2, though it was in Diablo 3 when they became more dominant. It remains to be seen how they will affect Diablo 4's meta. Diablo 4 meta should they be released, but we have the impression that their impact on the evolving fashion scene will be felt.
The Diablo 4 beta hasn't convinced me as of yet cheap Diablo IV Items, but I'm eager to play even more (Set Items or not).
