The use of aluminum extrusion profiles is widespread from Sandra Brown's blog

The extrusion process, which takes advantage of aluminum's excellent malleability, produces shapes by heating billets of aluminum alloy to soften them and then forcing them through special steel dies with a hydraulic press or ram under high pressure. What is produced are pieces of aluminum that retain the exact shape of the die that was used. A subsidiary of the world's largest aluminum profile company, Hydro Extrusion is the North American leader in extruded aluminum products made from common alloys and custom extruded aluminum products. Due to our extensive resources and unrivaled technical capabilities, we are able to manufacture the most comprehensive line of products in the extruded aluminium pipe industry.

We are also the largest soft alloy extruder in North America, using indirect press technology, according to our records. The use of this technology enables us to produce products with a more consistent grain structure and better dimensional tolerances, which improves the machinability and finishing of our products while also providing our customers with greater control and efficiency.

Our extrusions go through a variety of fabrication and/or finishing processes before being transformed into usable components, including cutting, punching, machining, bending, and weldment. Among the simple and complex extruded shapes available are seamless and structural aluminum pipe and tube; rod, bar, and hex products; structural angles; channels; tees; zees; H beams and I beams; and H-beams and I beams in both standard and custom shapes.

Aluminum extrusions are ideal for engine blocks, transmission housings, panels, roof rails, and chassis of automobiles, boats, trucks, railway and subway cars, as well as for the bodies and component parts of vehicles in the transportation industry, where the strength-to-weight ratio is critical. Aluminum extrusions are also ideal for the construction of bridges, tunnels, and other structures. extruded aluminum tube have also seen an increase in demand as structural components in the manufacture of lighter-weight automobiles, such as the new Ford F-150 pickup truck, which is 700 pounds lighter than the previous model. Aluminized steel conducts heat efficiently, so the metal is commonly found in automobile radiators and air conditioners, condenser tubes, nuclear reactors, pharmaceutical thawing units, computer and audio/visual system heating and cooling devices, and electronic heating and cooling devices.

One of the most advantageous properties of extruded aluminium pipe is that it is naturally rust and corrosion resistant, so it does not require any additional treatment. This is due to the presence of a thin, naturally occurring protective film of aluminum oxide on its surface, which forms a strong bond with it. As a result of its non-magnetic nature, extruded aluminum tubing is commonly used to house coaxial cables and wires. There are several applications for this product, including high-voltage applications as well as anywhere magnetic fields are present or where sensitive magnetic devices are in use.
